Portrait #10 : Selma Kaci Sebbagh

Immersion within the uniquely pop and colourful universe of Selma Kaci Sebbagh

Selma

Selma, an influential fashionista with a passion for fashion and an obsession for colour, recently received us in her incredible home: a painter's studio in the heart of Ménilmontant. This young woman full of energy made us discover this atypical interior as colourful as a rainbow, reflecting her personality but also her wardrobe.
The perfect place to welcome our Summer collection!

Hello Selma! Thank you for welcoming us! You tell us a little about yourself and your insta account?

Welcome! It's really nice to meet you! My name is Selma, I'm 25 years old, I live in Paris in the 20th arrondissement. My insta-account... it's a bit like a newspaper in fact: I publish my looks, my purchases, my good addresses, my Paris on a daily basis, but also I share a lot about my travels, art and design.

Selma

Where does this passion for streetwear culture come from?

Honestly, I don't know if you can say I have a passion for streetwear culture: it would be more for fashion in general. It seems complex to me to only be interested in streetwear without being interested in fashion as a whole. Streetwear being only one of the facets of fashion in the broadest sense. My interest in fashion comes from my mother, who has worked for big fashion houses since I was a child. I'm mainly interested in brands that have an eco-responsible action, or that are politically and ethnically committed. All these emerging brands that are changing what we already know.

You also share your commitment to many causes on social networks. Would you like to tell us about initiatives you participate in or associations you support?

I created an association with friends called La Ride Solidaire. Every week, we collect meals prepared by our friends and relatives, but also from restaurants, which we then distribute to people in difficulty. Concerning my commitments, I will quote the speech of the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie "We should all be feminists". I very regularly share accounts, but also articles, or images, that take a stand or inform on current issues that are close to my heart.

You have recently become the Artistic Director of a clothing brand. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

From my travels mainly! I had the chance chance to travel at a very young age with my family and see incredible places that years later continue to mark and inspire me. I also studied art history and philosophy, and this is undeniably an infinite source of inspiration for me.

How do you imagine your decor?Do you prefer to hunt for vintage pieces or find furniture from new designers?

I have completely adapted to the beautiful place in which I live, a bright and vast space that naturally calls for a decoration with industrial aspirations. I decorate my home with vintage furniture found at flea markets as well as more recent furniture that I spot on Instagram or in magazines. I like the breaks that are nevertheless coherent between vintage and modern.

Your interior and your wardrobe are very colourful. We love it! Like our summer collection inspired by the most beautiful Spanish islands. Which model(s) would you fall for?

Definitely: Formentera and Tagomago 💜

I think we share a passion for botany! Your account is full of flowers and your home is full of plants! Is it important for you to be surrounded by nature?

To me, it's very important to be surrounded by a natural world. Plants bring a place to life, decorate my home according to the seasons and my desires. My plants take a very important place in my living space as well as in my well-being. I buy them very regularly, I don't even know where to put them anymore!

Selma

What is your favourite plant at home?

My giant monstera that rises up to the glass roof of my living room: I love the energy it disperses.

Herbier

What are your favourite flowers? Why?

It's hard to choose! But if I had to decide, I would choose peonies. It's a delicate and majestic flower. Every year I invade my apartment with peonies from May to the end of summer.

As you told us, you've been traveling regularly since you were a child. What is your latest favourite destination?

I travel very regularly for work and I love it! I don't see myself living a sedentary life! These trips allow me to inspire my daily life, to meet new people and to gather unforgettable images. My favourite destination remains Marseille, a city full of energy where I've been going every summer for many years.

A next trip is planned between now and the end of the year or in 2021?

I plan to make another little trip to Marseille and then go to Tuscany to visit my dad, to make the most of the Mediterranean environment.
